What we are studying, and with whom.

Stride One records how load moves through the foot. Several research groups are using that recording to study questions that have been hard to answer outside a gait lab — how people actually load a foot at home, over weeks, rather than during one supervised walk.

These are studies, not product claims. The work below is investigational. It is conducted under the approvals each study requires, separately from what Stride One is sold to do. Nothing here describes a capability of the product, a use it is intended for, or a result it can deliver. What Stride One measures, and the list of what it does not, is set out on what the metrics mean.

Forefoot surgery

Recovery after hallux valgus correction

Data collection from patients recovering from forefoot surgery, looking at whether loading patterns recorded at home carry any signal about how recovery is progressing. Starting.

Weight-bearing instructions

What happens when the instruction is “do not put weight on it”

Over a hundred patients after foot and ankle surgery with at least four weeks of prescribed non-weight-bearing, with the sensor placed in the post-operative boot or cast. The literature already says adherence is poor; this measures it directly. Starting.

Ankle fracture

Gait recovery after ankle fracture surgery

A cohort of 100–150 patients, with a sub-group who also have a calcaneus fracture. Continuous recording at home throughout recovery, alongside structured clinical assessment at six weeks, twelve weeks, six months and a year. The aim is to characterise what real-world recovery actually looks like between appointments.

Corrective and reconstructive surgery

Long-term loading after foot and ankle reconstruction

An observational workstream across more than 300 patients at centres in Europe and the United States, spanning a range of corrective and reconstructive procedures. It is deliberately lightweight, and is intended to build a longitudinal real-world dataset rather than to test a single hypothesis.

Measurement accuracy

How the device compares against laboratory equipment

An academic workstream testing validity, reliability and accuracy against force plates, optical motion capture and balance measurement. This one is about the instrument rather than about patients: establishing how closely the insole agrees with reference methods, and where it does not.
